Algemeen
Sinds 2001 ben ik werkzaam in het Albert Schweitzer ziekenhuis en heb ik meerdere functies vervuld en opleidingen doorlopen. Inmiddels werk ik sinds 2009 bij de neurologie als Physician Assistant. Ik richt mij voornamelijk op de vasculaire en acute neurologie. Het uitgebreid moeten zoeken naar een verklaring of oorzaak van bijvoorbeeld een herseninfarct of hersenbloeding vind ik interessant, temeer als dit jonge mensen treft. Helaas zie ik steeds vaker jonge mensen met deze aandoening, gedeeltelijk te verklaren door een toename in aanwezigheid van cardiovasculaire risicofactoren, als overgewicht, roken, hoge bloeddruk. Ondanks hetgeen wat we aan zorg bieden in de ziekenhuisfase en de nazorg van de huisarts, pleit ik steeds meer voor primaire preventie. Daar ligt mijns inziens de kracht van onze gezondheidszorg. In 2020 ben ik gepromoveerd aan de Universiteit van Amsterdam en houd ik mij graag naast de klinische zorg bezig met wetenschappelijk onderzoek, gericht op klinische vragen uit de dagelijkse praktijk. Een voorbeeld hiervan is een prospectief onderzoek in samenwerking met de afdeling cardiologie, gericht op het selectief inzetten van langere hartritmeregistratie ter detectie van een hartritmestoornis bij patiënten met een TIA of herseninfarct na de ziekenhuisfase.
